Convert Snapshot file into Memory Dump

This article provides steps to convert a snapshot file to a memory dump using the vmss2core tool. You can follow the below steps to convert memory dump through snapshot files.

  1. Take the snapshot with the memory of the VM.
  2. Download vmss2core tool à https://labs.vmware.com/flings/vmss2core
  3. Copy the vmsn , vmem and vmss2core tools to the same directory.
  4. In the command line, run the below vmss2core tool with the option to create a memory dump

    vmss2core.exe -W virtual_machine_name.vmsn virtual_machine_name.vmem

Wait for 5-10 minutes.

If you are using Microsoft Windows 8/8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019 run this command:
vmss2core.exe -W8 virtual_machine_name.vmsn virtual_machine_name.vmem

If you are using Linux, use the command:
./vmss2core-Linux64 -N virtual_machine_name.vmsn
